An Advanced Dermatology Fellowship Program
Enhancing Alopecia Care in Skin of Color for Advanced Practice Providers

Our innovative fellowship program is a self-paced educational experience designed specifically for dermatology Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Created with flexibility in mind, the program allows participants to balance their clinical responsibilities while advancing their dermatologic knowledge at their own pace.
The curriculum consists of approximately four hours of asynchronous modules, each ranging from 15 to 45 minutes. These modules focus on the evaluation, diagnosis, severity assessment, and treatment of both scarring and non-scarring alopecias; with a special emphasis on caring for patients of color. What sets this program apart is its integrative dermatology component, developed by a double-board certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist with fellowship training in integrative dermatology.

Educational content includes lectures, clinical case studies, and curated readings. Upon completion, participants will engage in a collaborative round-table discussion led by the program instructor, where they can explore complex hair loss cases and ask questions in a dynamic group setting. A virtual discussion board will also be available throughout the course, with optional follow-up sessions provided based on participant interest and feedback.
Participants retain access to the course materials even after the program concludes, and select resources will be made publicly available for ongoing professional education. Additionally, we offer customizable patient education documents to help APPs effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plans with their patients.

About the program
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) often begin dermatology practice without standardized training, particularly in diagnosing and managing alopecia. Existing programs offer limited content on hair disorders and rarely focus on patients with skin of color, despite the need for inclusive care. Many APPs feel underprepared to assess severity, navigate treatment options, or use newer therapies like JAK inhibitors. Inconsistent training and limited exposure contribute to delays in diagnosis and disparities in care. This program addresses these gaps by offering focused, practical, and inclusive education to improve clinical confidence and patient outcomes.
This fellowship is just the beginning. We plan to expand the program to cover other complex dermatologic conditions, with future versions potentially offering CME credit and expert-led panels. Our goal is to empower APPs with practical, high-level dermatology training that enhances patient care and professional confidence.
